i think you'll find it IS a D3. After his crash in Dunedin, here in new zealand, where he knocked himself unconscious he went straight out and bought a D3! As it happens it was a sam hill one and he was even seen to cover up the sam hill signature with electrical tape. here is a photo from another angle showing clearly that it is a D3 http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/6877898/
